UST-KULOM DISTRICT

Ust-Kulom District is situated in the southeast of the Komi Republic, in a river basin Vychegda. It borders with Kortkerossky and Troitsko-Pechorsky areas, municipal area "Sosnogorsk", city district Ukhta and the Perm edge. Distance from Ust-Kulom District to Syktyvkar is 189 km.

People lived in the Ust-Kulomsky area since the most ancient times. The first person has appeared during a mesolite epoch, 8-10 thousand years ago. In this territory a considerable quantity of archaeological monuments - from an epoch of a stone before the Middle Ages, among which most ancient settlements, burial grounds and sanctuaries are found.

By the end of the XIX-th century, Ust-Kulom became the large administrative, economic and cultural centre. The population of it is about 29,9 thousand (2010 year). The official birthday of  Ust-Kulom is the 15th of July 1929. 

This District is very interesting, beautiful (especially in Summer and Winter) and rich. 

How to get there

If you want to visit Ust-Kulom you can do it every day. The buses №521 go there 

• at 7:10 (and you will be in Ust-Kulom at 10:40);  
• at 13:10 (16:40);
• at 16:10 (19:50);
• at 18:00 (21:30).

The ticket is costed on the average 400 roubles.

Besides, you can go there by taxi. But it will be more expensive.

Ulyanovsk Monastery

Many of us ever heard about the Ulyanovsk monastery. The monastery was the spiritually-religious centre of the Komi edge. Today the travellers who are going to Ust-Kulom can see after the journey its majestic bell tower. If you are interested in it you can see it by yourself!

The journey from the bus station in Syktyvkar by bus on Ust-Kulom (№521), time in a way 2,5 hours.

The Vasilej Festival

Besides, Ust-Kulom District is the main keeper of the komi national traditions and culture. Every year you can visit the festival of amateur composers "Vasilej" which takes place in Ust-Kulom in the 14th of January. There are very many talented people in this district with golden hands! Here store traditions of national creativity, how to plait lace, patterned knitting, processing of silver bark, a tree.

Other Attractions

The forests have magnetic force in these places! There are different kinds of berries, such as cloudberries, blueberries, cranberries, cowberries and many others which are very healthy for our health. Also, mushrooms which are very tasty. And various of medicinal plants which you can use to improve your health.

There is a bakery in Ust-Kulom where you can buy white and brown bread, buns with various stuffing. Some years ago the bakery let out in production even lemonade, it is petty but nowadays it is impossible to find it.
