SACRED PLACES OF KOMI

Sacred places


There are a lot of wonderful sacred places in the Komi Republic! Now some of them have a danger of extinction. It is the so-called “Red book” of the Komi Republic. 

You can get there from the bus station, which is situated on 13 Zavodskaya Street (phone number: 8(8212)56-68-26). You can reach the bus station by buses № 5 (bus stop “Airport”), № 1 (bus stop “Bus station”).

Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin

(Церковь Рождества Пресвятой Богородицы)


The village Votcha, Sysolskiy district.
The years of building: 1829 – 1841.
At the beginning of the XX century walls of the upper floor were decorated by the famous painter Jilin (Жилин) from Velikiy Ustyug.




Church of the Ascension

(Церковь Вознесения Господня)


The village Mohcha, Igemskiy district.
The years of building: 1830 – 1838
The building of the church was financed by inhabitants of the village. In 1889 the church was decorated by the famous painter Schischov (Шишов) from Velikiy Ustyug.

The village Turya, 
Knyagpogostskiy district.
The years of building: the XIX century.
It was rebuilt in 1859 – 1861.
The church is an example of provincial spiritual architecture. 








Church of Procopius of Ustyug

(Церковь Прокопия Устюжского)


The village Nyuchpas, Kojgorodskiy district. 
The year of building: 1916
It is one of the best examples of wooden religious architecture in the Komi Republic.
The church was built in so-called “Russian” style. 






Church of the Transfiguration

(Церковь Преображения Господня)


The village Izma.
The years of building: 1807 - 1828
It is the first brick building in Igma.
Earlier religious school and then college was situated there.





Chapel of St. Nicholas

(Часовня Николая Чудотворца)


The village Koni, Knyagpogostskiy district. 
The year of building: the XIX century
It is typical for the 19th-century country wooden chapel.

The village Palauz, Sysolskiy district.
The years of building: 1850 – 1879
The church was built upon the project of  
the Vologodskiy bishop Evlampiy has his benediction.





Church of the Epiphany

(Церковь Богоявления Господня)


The village Lyali, Knyagpogostskiy district.
The years of building: 1852 – 1856
It was the last church, which was closed in the Komi ASSR (1941).






Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin

(Церковь Рождества Пресвятой Богородицы)


The village Onegje, Knyagpogostskiy district.
The years of building: 1850 – 1862, 1902 – 1911.
At the end of the XIX century, it was decorated with paintings, having the biblical topic. The author of these paintings is the father of the sociologist Pitirim Sorokin.



Church of St. Nicholas

(Церковь  Николая Чудотворца)


The village Pyeldino, Sysolskiy district.
The years of building: 1847 – 1850. The building of the church was financed by inhabitants and other visitors of the church.
