KOMI LANGUAGE AND ART


The Komi language is a native language of Komi people. And of course, it is studied at schools. Moreover, it is a required course. In Syktyvkar there is only one school where pupils study Komi since the first form, others study it since the second one. Some parents are against of it, but for Komi people, it is important to know their history, art and traditions that are reflected in their mother tongue.

Komi and Finno-Ugric art


Today Komi and Finno-Ugric art is very popular. There are different types of art, for example, music, dancing, singing, painting and so on. The most popular folk ensemble is “Asya Kya”. It was originated in 1939. Its’ members sing, dance national dances; on their concert is always the “sold out”. Another famous ensemble is “Шондiбан”. It is also liked for its songs and dances. 

There are many writers and poets in the Komi Republic. They organize reading evenings often. They are Vjuchnin Valeri Nikolayevich, Gabova Elena Vasilyevna, Miroshnichenko Nadezhda Alexandrovna and some other. There are also many museums where people can see different handicrafts, pictures and some historical things and documents.
