TROITSKO-PECHORSKY DISTRICT

Troitsko-Pechorsky District is a comparatively young administrative unit - it was founded on the 20th of February, 1931. However, the first human beings appeared there as far back as 10-8 thousand years ago, in the Stone Age. A lot of ancient caves preserved till the present day, remind us of this fact. For quite a long time there was no constant settlement, and the territory was inhabited by the nomadic Mansi tribes. The settlement process started in 1674 – when a village consisting of only five peasants’ houses was founded in the place, where the Pechora and the Northern Mylva rivers flow together.

The population of the district is 15 243 people, the administrative centre is located in the village of Troitsko-Pechorsk.
