INTA

Inta was founded in 1940 on the place of the coal bed, which was discovered by geologists as early as the beginning of 19 century. Therefore the first settlers of the future town were exploration geologists.

After Donets Basin was occupied by German-fascist conquerors, our country was needed badly in discovery and development of new sources of energy. So, the commercial production of coal in Inta was organized in the period of the Great Patriotic war – in 1943 the first train with power-generating coal that was mined in Inta was sent to Leningrad.

At 4 of October in 1954, the Inta settlement was reorganized into the town by the decree of the praesidium of Supreme Soviet of RSFSR.

The Water Tower

In 1953-1954 one of the few of architectural monuments in a small town was built — a water tower. The building doesn't correspond to shape habitual for similar constructions — it is surprising to see in a small town so grand monument of the architecture executed out of a traditional red brick. The tower is the favourite building of townspeople — it is definitely a city symbol (not surprisingly that this building is embodied on the coat of arms of the town), and inhabitants of Inta are obliged by its occurrence to the political prisoner — to Swede Arthur Tamvelius.

The Glory Monument of soldiers of the Great Patriotic War

The Komsomol'skaya square is a city square since 1963 almost 20 years bore Lenin's name and became a watershed between the township and the town of Inta. Really, everything that was built behind this area was built in a new way, differently. Builders were already not prisoners, and civilians, they were not digging foundations any more here and were not ramming in the foundations, and the number of storeys of buildings has increased from two-three to five-nine floors. On this area, since 60th years, the snow small towns with many art figures and an original slide were being constructed for New Year's holidays. In the autumn of 1977 on the area, a construction of the Glory Monument in memory to the soldiers who have not come back from fronts of the Great Patriotic War had been finished. In 1985 on commemorative plates names of 162 citizens of Inta and a four more – from Afghan war have been carved.

The architectural complex of wooden architecture "Teremki"

The main street of the settlement has been conceived by its founders - architects of design department "Intastroy" - as a united ensemble in the style of Russian wooden architecture. Meanwhile not an easy task was assigned: - to avoid uniformity of these constructions with the unity of building material and the number of storeys. It is necessary to recognize that the enthusiasts who had given to the work all their soul have perfectly coped with this problem by the architectural ornaments designed for each building and inherent only in them - an original balcony, a loggia, carved frames of windows... And among them, first of all, there was Ivan Andreevich Homenko, chief of the department and the main architect and Sergey Vasiljevich Durakov - the head of the project "Inta". Builders have waited for the arrival by train of the building timber of good quality from the South of the Republic and have started the realization of the project. First, four two-storeyed houses have been handed over in 1944 as many in the next year, eight houses - in 1946 and eight more - in 1948.
